The Scottish Rite is a unique and captivating branch of Freemasonry that offers a wide range of additional degrees, starting at the 4th degree and extending all the way up to the 32nd degree. There are also additional honorary degrees available, from the 32nd degree KCCH to the 33rd degree. The regalia worn during these degrees is distinctive and quite different from that of the York Rite, as seen in graphical format from page 4 onwards.

Please note that the degrees and regalia presented on this page and subsequent pages are specific to the “Southern Jurisdiction” (AASR-SJ) of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite. Any differences between the Northern Jurisdiction will be noted in each degree and available in the AASR-NJ page.

The Scottish Rite is one of the appendant bodies of Freemasonry that a Master Mason can join to further expand their understanding of the principles of Freemasonry.

To join the Scottish Rite, individuals must first take their 1st, 2nd and 3rd Degrees in a Craft Lodge. While there is no higher rank than a 3rd degree Master Mason, the Scottish Rite degrees are related to the degrees of Symbolic Freemasonry. The Scottish Rite builds on the ethical teachings and philosophy of the Blue Lodge through dramatic presentations of individual degrees.
